November Issue: Floral Autumn ⚘⚘⚘

Original picture: Elle Magazine Australia with Miranda Kerr

Dear Reader,

The Fashion Month, that took place in September, was covered with flowers. Abundant amounts pouring out of gowns, especially. One of the most splendid catwalks was Oscar de la Renta's, who, sadly, passed away recently; A post will be dedicated to him. Furthermore, we'll explore how the perception of flowers by artists has changed over the centuries. And, finally, you will discover a few hairstyles which will go from delicate flowers pinned to flamboyant autumnal crowns. So leaf your problems behind and have a good read! (What a punny one!)

The Secret Mask of the Cabaret

Top to bottom:
Chorus of the cabaret of Piccadilly Hotel (1925)
Film: Moulin Rouge (2001)

At the time, the shows in cabarets involved a seduction game with the public which wasn't found in a typical singing saloon. The performances also required an energetic dimension and something 'new' to make the crowd cheer even more; For example, La Goulue (Louise Weber) who is a precursor of the Cancan dance.

Today, the sexual side has been accentuated, but if you ask a cabaret dancer what is the most important element in their presentation, they'll quickly mention the glitzy wardrobe they own, but they'll most certainly emphasise on the importance of makeup. As they go on stage, they leave their casual self behind and enter as another person - almost like actors. Their makeup, which is very exaggerated, screams out a personality. The most common look is the 'smokey grey eyes and perfectly applied scarlet lipstick'.

The Women of Toulouse-Lautrec

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 - 1901), French illustrator and painter, had an immense love for women and found a particular joy in seeing them perform, dance, sing in cabarets. This way, the legendary artist spent his nights living through the craziness of the Moulin Rouge, drugged by bountiful Beauty. He dazed off into a world full of movement, involving different facets, and twirling women. Toulouse-Lautrec, then, made this atmosphere a subject of his paintings.

Podium of Crazy

This week we turned our attention to the people who stepped out of the monotonous black and white outfits and dared a few bold colours or a bizarre cut. It was very hard to choose but at the end we found three superb ladies that had done the job, in a nevertheless chic way.

In third place is Miroslava Duma (love her name). She's rocking a very trendy torsade chick-yellow jumper. This thick knit contrasts, touch-wise, with her crepe pair of pants and velvet chunky heels. The mix of these bold colours (bordeaux and yellow), as well as the diversity of the textures in her outfit, is very daring.

Coming second, even though it didn't involve an exotic splash of colours, is Emma Watson. I feel like she's been doing everything correctly lately. Her Dior Haute Couture dress is certainly black and white, but the cut fits her perfectly and is very adventurous. The hair and makeup is very simple, which brings more attention to the dress. Note the cute stilettos, too (*slightly jealous*).

Stealing the first place is Araya Alberta Hargate in a whimsical Prada coat. Her outfit is the perfect balance of sporty and elegant. The colours of her outfit are very well assembled and there is a diversity in her outfit, which makes it resplendent and original. Bravo!

October Issue: Cabarets 🎉

Dear Reader,

Voilà! The final theme for October is 'Cabarets'. Now, some link this genre of spectacle to unholy clubs and degrading French cancan dances. - but it is not. It is an art like no other, and we will give you a taste of some crazy, Moulin Rouge-style, fashion. Makeup, as hauntingly beautiful as can be in cabarets, may outshine the rest of the issue (and give you ideas for Halloween *wink, wink*). To spoil you a little more, Toulouse-Lautrec, accompanied by his La Goulue & companie paintings, will be making an appearance, too. So it is time to take a seat, relax, and enjoy the show!

Introduction

Hello!

I've embarked on a new journey, which is this blog. My previous blog, The Butterfly Effect, didn't keep me satisfied and didn't represent me fully. Hence the new blog, new template, new ideas - new everything!
In fashion, what really interests me is not my style, but the talent others have. Same goes for art. I prefer writing about something I love, than about myself. This is why I've debuted something new with Rien de Rien

Each month, I shall announce a theme. Every seven days, I will publish an article/photoshoot pictures/scrapbook page. You will be able to discover weekly a new page to my online magazine and comment your feedback.

If you've observed, I've prepared a little poll, where you can vote for your favourite theme for the November Issue. The theme for October is already sealed in an envelope.

So I give you a rendez-vous for October 1st!

Ciao!
